UNIPHIN Women’s Committee Empowers Women Leaders Through Mentorship Program on International Women’s Day

UNIPHIN Women’s Committee organized a special mentoring program in honor of International Women’s Day, aimed at empowering women and increasing their participation in leadership positions. The event featured UNIPHIN Women’s Committee President Rojila Karki and Secretary Jwala Subedi, who shared their experiences and progress after going through the mentorship program.

The program was attended by 11 tandems of women, who discussed mentorship opportunities and committed to signing an agreement to continue working together as mentor and mentee. The goal of the program is to empower more women into leadership positions and to meet with Nepal’s care sector unions to create more equality and voices in shaping the future of Nepal’s healthcare sector.

UNIPHIN is a national trade union federation representing private hospital healthcare workers in Nepal. The organization aims to increase membership to influence policy-making related to the healthcare sector and private hospitals. The UNI Equal Opportunities Mentoring Program was launched in 2013 by the UNI Department of Equal Opportunities and is part of this initiative.

The program creates tandems of women where mentors share their experience with mentees and integrate new union leaders. Women unionists under 35 who have experience in union work and structure can choose their own mentor and work together to ensure the program’s success. Proactive and experienced women labor leaders and decision-making members of unions can be mentors.

The UNIPHIN Women’s Committee’s mentoring program was a success, with participants committing to continuing their work together to empower women into leadership positions. The event was a reminder of the importance of International Women’s Day and the ongoing effort to achieve gender equality in Nepal’s healthcare sector.
